Keurig is King

There are a few things I can’t live without and coffee is one of them.  Since the age of 13 I have been a coffee drinker.  It all started with that first sip of my mom’s coffee that was sweetened with cream and sugar.  It was a cold, rainy day in December in Northern California and the warm cup of coffee woke me from my exhausted state.  I had been up all night studying for a history exam in my 8th grade class at St. Christopher’s Catholic School in San Jose, CA.  A classmate that I was on the phone studying with for most of the night (well, we sort of studied) had told me to drink coffee in the morning to help wake me up for the test. He was right, the coffee not only woke me up, it tasted good!  Twenty-three years later and I am still a coffee drinker. Coffee has been there for me when I would be up all night studying or working late as a bartender. When my children were newborns and I had only a few hours of sleep, coffee was there for me. It has been 23 years and my love for coffee is stronger than ever!

My good friend and fellow coffee connoisseur, Robert, has been telling me to buy a Keurig for the last two years. If you are not familiar, a Keurig is a single cup brewer that brews coffee through K-Cups, which are plastic, pre-measured cups filled with ground coffee. A sealed K-Cup is placed into the machine and then punctured so that hot water can brew the coffee through the K-Cup and right into your mug.  The result is a fresh, hot cup of coffee that tastes truly amazing. In addition to coffee, K-Cups also brew tea, cider, hot chocolate as well as iced coffee and ice tea. Robert has been singing Keurig’s praises since I have known him and believe me, I had been wanting to buy a Keurig for the last two years but just could not justify making that type of a splurge being that I am a single mom.  I finally saved enough money and bought one last month. Buying a Keurig was one of the best decisions I have made.  It brews coffee that rivals any of the top coffee shops in town, all in the span of about 30 seconds!

I am not a morning person by ANY means and am known to hit the snooze button about 4 times before I actually get up. Now that I have a Keurig, I actually leap out of bed to brew a fresh cup. Those that know me are well aware of the fact that I am very grumpy until I have my coffee. In fact, my five-year old son Rocco knows how to use our Keurig and loves to make his mamma coffee! Now, if only I could get him to wash dishes and then I would have it made!

Another great feature about a Keurig is that K-Cups are available in over 200 varieties by brands such as Gloria Jean’s, Green Mountain, Van Houtte, Tully’s Emeril’s, Wolfgang Puck and more. My two current favorite’s are Hazelnut by Gloria Jean’s and Green Mountain’s Island Coconut. I love offering my house guests such a nice selection of coffees and I really look like a rock star with my K-Cup Carousel Tower.

I would love more than anything to give a lucky reader a Keurig Brewer, but it would take me about a year to save up for one, so I am going to do the next best thing and give away a gift pack of K-Cups and a very cool coffee mug.  To enter, all you have to do is “like” my page on Facebook and post, “I love coffee” on my wall. (You can visit my page by clicking here.) I will pick a winner on July 31st.  If you do not use Facebook, email me at: eatdrinkandbetracyATgmailDOTcom.  I will be posting links for Keurig giveaways from other bloggers on my Facebook page.

***Thank you so much for visiting my new blog.  This is my first post and I have been having technical issues with some of the features, such as entry forms and share buttons.  I have lost my post three times and and determined to get this up tonight.  Thankfully I have my Keurig to get me through this!

Ciao for now,

Tracy (Coffee Diva)
