I am pretty good at keeping my New Years Resolutions and wanted to do a little something different this year in addition to my usual fitness goals. A few weeks ago, I came across a pin on Pinterest from The Golden Girl Blog about 10 Ways To Be A Better Version of Yourself in 2014. I read the article and have been implementing them into my daily life. Sometimes the littlest things make all the difference in the world and I am loving the results from this simple lifestyle change. I encourage you to try just a few of these and I promise you notice a huge difference. Happiness is contagious so why not spread the joy?

1. Start wearing bold lipstick
This is a fun one. I tend to wear the same neutral colors and decided to go to the store and purchase some bright and exciting colors such as vibrant red and deep burgundy. Not only do the bold colors cheer me up when I am feeling down or just tired, they tend to attract attention and compliments. Pair a bold color with a pair of stilettos and you will be ready to take on the world.
2. Start acting the way you want to feel.
This one really hits home with me. 2013 was a hectic year filled with professional disappointments and lots of stress. As the year drew to a close, I was feeling a bit depressed about my “lack” of a career. Rather than focus on the negative, I decided to finally do what I have always wanted with blogging but never had time due my hectic work schedule. I am only three weeks into 2014 but have already began relaunching this blog with a new design and my daily Pinterest project. Each day I wake up happy and look forward to what new skill I will learn and the goals that I will accomplish. So far I am loving it and have never been happier.
3. Call up a friend you’ve lost touch with
Sometime life gets in the way and we lose touch with friends and family. I have not done this yet but there are a few people on my list to reconnect with and meet for a cup of coffee or glass of wine.
4. Give at least 3 people a compliment this morning
Have you ever been having a bad day and then someone compliments you on your hair or shoes and suddenly you feel great? Nothing beats this feeling and you can slowly change the world one complement at a time. The next time you are in line at the local cafe, pick someone and give them a compliment or better yet, pick up the tab for someone’s coffee. Just pay it forward.
5. Make every hug last at least 20 seconds
My daughter has taught me this. She gives the best hugs and no matter how bad my day is, one long hug from her and all my troubles just melt away. Give your spouse, friend, child or parent a long hug and enjoy the moment.
6. Pick one argument per day to “let go”
Arguing is a waste of time and energy. Rather than argue back over something trivial, learn to let things go and see how much better you will feel. Time lost over arguing can never be regained.
7. Spend just 5 minutes per day tidying up your space
As a busy single mom of two that works a lot, I am guilty of not always putting the dishes away or leaving my hair products out in the bathroom. By taking 5 minutes each day to organize, you will notice a world of difference and make steps toward a more organized life. Organization = less stress.
8. Pick one new or different thing to try every month
I am taking this a bit to the extreme with my daily Pinterest posts but by trying just one new thing a month you will stimulate your brain and awaken your creative side. Over the last month I have tried Pure Barre classes, made croquetas for the first time, tried a few new restaurants and learned some new web-designing skills.
9. Have more conversations with strangers
As a bartender, this is part of my daily life and I LOVE IT! While you have to be cautious of who you strike up a conversation with, there is nothing wrong with chatting with someone in line at the market or admiring someone’s wardrobe. You will be amazed about what you can learn about someone.
10. Stock up on cute greeting cards
I am a sucker for Valentine’s Day. There is something about hearts and cute cards that I love. Since I got behind in Christmas cards this year, I decided that I am going to send out Valentine’s friendship cards and my friends and loved ones know that they are always on my mind. When it comes to written communication, I am old school. As much as I email and text, nothing compares to a hand written note.
