With Valentine’s Day coming up, I have been looking on Pinterest for some cute DIY ideas for gifts and found a pin for Aromatherapy Vapor Shower Disks from the blog, Peacoats & Plaid. All you need is baking soda, water, essential oils, a muffin tin and cupcake liners. I tried these out today and was very proud of myself and how they turned out. I am NOT a crafty person and can’t even hem a pair of pants, so this was an exciting project.
I headed over to Michael’s to find some Valentine inspired cupcake liners and found some adorable red and white polka dot ones that I just had to purchase.
Since I was going to be packaging these in a mason jar, I found some cute gift tags to match my Valentine’s theme.
To begin, preheat your oven to 325, then take 2 1/2 cups of baking soda, place in a large mixing bowl and mix with about 1/3 cup of water. You do not need to be exact with your measurements, so feel free to add more water. You want the mixture to be nice and thick, almost like wet sand. Be careful that it does not get too watery, as the disks will fall apart after baking. I began with 1/3 cup of water and added a little more to ensure a nice and thick consistency. Next, place you cupcake liners in the muffin tin and fill each one about 3/4 full. Bake for 20 minutes.
When the disks are done, remove from the oven and let them cool completely. Since today was chilly, I stuck mine outside to let them get nice and cold.
Once they have cooled completely, remove the cupcake liners and add about 10 drops of essential oil to each disk. You can use any scent of oil and I chose red thyme since it was something different.
Next place each disk into a fresh cupcake liner. The next time I make these, I will use plain liners for baking and the nicer ones for packaging. I realized this after I made these. 🙂
You can wrap these however you want and I chose to use a mason jar since I always have them on hand. I alternated the colors of the liners for a nice presentation. I used some read and white twine to tie the gift tag around the jar. Isn’t this cute?
I am very proud of myself for making these. As someone who has never been good at arts and crafts, this was a huge step for me. Maybe I do have a tiny bit of craftiness inside of me and I can’t wait to dive into some more projects. Stay tuned for more!
