I am very excited about this weekend. While I can’t tell you about it yet, I promise that I will be sharing some very delicious recipes with Florida Strawberries. For the last month, I have had strawberries on the brain, especially after making a quick trip after Thanksgiving weekend to a local strawberry farm in Plant City. I learned so much and will be continuing my educational experience this weekend. Call it a coincidence, but as I was browsing through my California Home Cooking book for a new recipe to feature, I came across something that was meant to be, Strawberry Soup.… Read the rest
Happy Friday! I am very excited for the NFL playoffs this weekend, especially since my beloved Pittsburgh Steelers are getting ready to take on the Miami Dolphins in hopes of making it to the Super Bowl and getting that seventh ring. When it comes to football, there is nothing I enjoy more than watching the game at home and feasting on some of my favorite football foods. For Sunday’s big game, I will be having a few friends over and pairing some of my favorite CK Mondavi wines with an array of small bites.… Read the rest
Garlic goes with everything….pasta, butter, shrimp, steak, veggies and chocolate. Yes, you read that correctly, chocolate. I know I have mentioned this is posts from the past but one of my favorite memories as a child was attending the annual Gilroy Garlic Festival. A garlic lovers paradise, you can try everything you can dream of with garlic, including garlic ice cream served in a cantaloupe bowl. I am telling you, the garlic ice cream is fantastic and even though it has been years since I have had it, I can still remember the taste.… Read the rest
I am so excited to participate in this week’s Sunday Supper which features summer’s best pot luck recipes. As I am currently visiting California on my virtual culinary tour of America, I wanted to share a California inspired recipe. Walnut grapes are easy to make and are a nice addition to a potluck or cocktail party.
When I am invited to a potluck or social event that involves everyone bringing a dish, I always like to bring something different.… Read the rest
I just got back from the Food Wine Conference in Orlando and I am still in a food coma. The weekend was a whirlwind of food, drink and non-stop laughter. One of the event sponsors was CK Mondavi and I was blessed with the opportunity to be one of their brand ambassadors. If you know me, then you know how much that meant being that I was born and raised in Northern California. It is no secret that even after 13 years in Florida I am still incredibly homesick and one of the places I miss the most is wine country.… Read the rest
Forgive me if I get a bit teary eyed as I think about my hometown of San Jose, California. When I saw that this week’s theme for Sunday Supper was regional specialties, I knew I had to share something special from my childhood. Just to share a bit of my background, I was born in Walnut Creek, CA and moved to San Jose at age 2. I lived in the same house until I was 24 and then moved into an apartment with a roommate.… Read the rest
Happy Friday! I am hella ready to visit the next stop on my culinary tour of America because it just so happens to be my home state of California. Be warned, I have SO much to cover from the Golden State that I might be there for awhile. Let me start with a little bit about me. I was born in Walnut Creek, which is located just South of Oakland, and moved to San Jose when I was about two.… Read the rest
As I get ready to end my food tour of Arkansas and head to California (my favorite), I wanted to end it on a sweet note. While researching recipes, I kept coming across “possum pie” and just knew I had to make it.
Consisting of three layers (cream cheese, chocolate pudding and Cool Whip), this pie is pure bliss. While the main ingredients for the pie are easy, the crust was a challenge. This was my first time cutting butter into flour and let me just say, what an awesome first time experience.… Read the rest
The name “hush puppies” has always made me laugh because it reminds me of those retro ads for men’s shoes with the adorable Basset Hound. For the life of me, I can’t remember the first time I tried them and I thought it would be fun to make them with my kids. We had a lot of fun making these tonight, as we did some research on the origin of the name and how they became so popular.… Read the rest
Who doesn’t love strawberries? I am very blessed that I grew up living so close Salinas, CA which is better known as the “salad bowl capital of the world.” Fresh produce has always been a staple in my diet and now that I live in Tampa, I am equally fortunate to live only 30 minutes from the strawberry producing mecca that is Plant City. Last week I stopped by my favorite local produce shop, South Tampa Fresh Market, and purchased a few baskets of gorgeous strawberries.… Read the rest
