I do not think I have been this excited for a Monday in ages! As many of you know, pizza is my true love and well, I just can’t get enough. 2017 was filled with tons of new pizza discoveries in not only Tampa Bay but other cities as well. I decided over the holidays that I am going to find the best pizza of 2018 and will be sharing my discoveries with all of you along the way. Each Monday starting in February, I will feature a recap of the pizza I devoured the previous week and by the end of 2018, I will have crowned my winner for the best pizza.
I ate a LOT of pizza in 2017 and 2018 won’t be any different. Where is your favorite place to get pizza? #pizzaqueen 🍕

This past weekend I did what I do best and enjoyed a quiet Friday night with my true love, a Neapolitan Pizza at Midici in St. Pete. This was my second visit and I had their Truffle & Prosciutto Pizza. Made with truffle cream, fresh mozzarella, mushrooms, prosciutto and arugula, it was just what I needed after a hectic work week.
If you have not been to Midici, I urge you to go. Both of my visits have been simply outstanding and they knocked it out of the park with their pizzas. Their pizza is Neapolitan style which is known for its a chewy and crisp dough that is topped with all-natural ingredients. I had the privilege of experiencing authentic Neapolitan pizza many moons ago while vacationing in Italy. The city of Naples was like a dream to me and I will never forget the pizza I had, one in particular was topped with prosciutto, basil and corn. If only I had Instagram back then! The taste and image of that spectacular pizza will forever be ingrained in my memory and I hope to make it back there someday.
Midici stays true to Neapolitan heritage, as their dough is made with only four fine ingredients: non-GMO double zero flour imported from Naples, pure water, sea salt and live yeast. They top their pizza with authentic and pure ingredients such as crushed non-GMO Italian peeled tomatoes, fresh whole mozzarella and non-GMO, Italian extra virgin cold-pressed olive oil. I will need to go back a few more times as they have many pizzas I want to try.
I would love to hear your favorite pizza spots and will be using your recommendations as I seek the best pizza of 2018. Have a delicious week and be sure to eat some pizza!
